Fresh Cranberry Bread.

A thick slice of moist fresh cranberry bread, bursting with tart berries, and slathered with butter.

Moist, sweet, tender bread stuffed full of bright, tart cranberries – this is the most festive little loaf! Who wouldn’t want a slice for breakfast? Or a snack? Or as a bribe to make your children eat fun dinner component? I love holiday baking, but so many of my favorites require individual rolling of cookies (like gingersnaps), or individual rolling plus not-one-but-two powdered sugar dustings (see Russian tea cookies) or individual rolling plus a melted chocolate dunk (see cookie dough truffles) <–all 100%, utterly worth the effort, btw. I’m thrilled to add something to the lineup that you can stir with a whisk and even make ahead and freeze! Fresh cranberry bread would make a great gift for neighbors or friends, too. Cookie Dough Truffles (Christmas Cookie Week).

**This post is brought to you by my lovely sister, Laurie!**

Once upon a time, I was at a potluck supper and found myself walking past the dessert table on my way to the end of a long buffet line. I snagged a little round chocolate something and took a bite… and found myself with a little nugget of chocolate chip cookie dough dipped in chocolate! Part of me wanted to tell everyone in line about this amazing little treat, but the rest of me wanted there to still be some left when I went through the dessert line for real! I have been looking for an excuse to make these Cookie Dough Truffles ever since. Christmas Cookie Week seems like a good time. (Cookie dough qualifies it as an acceptable recipe, right?!) I’ll be packaging these up as gifts for my boys’ teachers–that is, if we don’t eat them all ourselves!

Russian Tea Cookies (Christmas Cookie Week).

Welcome back to Christmas Cookie Week! Today’s treat is Russian Tea Cookies (which seem to have many aliases – Mexican Wedding Cakes, Snowballs, and Sand Tarts are ones I’ve heard). I love these nutty little cookies, with their delicate crunch and buttery richness. Continue reading “Russian Tea Cookies (Christmas Cookie Week).”

Gingersnaps (Christmas Cookie Week).

Someone took a bite out of one of those crackly-surfaced gingersnaps

Welcome to Christmas Cookie Week! I love holiday baking, and I’m going to try to control my exclamation points but I’ve eaten a lot of cookies this afternoon! And Christmas is coming! Christmas! Cookie! Week!

In my family, there are certain foods that Must Be Made for certain holidays, and having tins loaded with cookies is a Christmas necessity. And the most necessary cookie is definitely the gingersnap. I have very old memories of shifting the cookie tin around after dinner, trying to find the biggest one (um, I’m still her). Continue reading “Gingersnaps (Christmas Cookie Week).”
